1. Introduction

Easy Chinese ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App"). By downloading, installing, or using Easy Chinese, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our services:

- Learning Progress: Your study statistics, completed lessons, practice scores, and mastered content are stored locally on your device.
- User Preferences: App language settings (Chinese/English), theme preferences, mute settings, and display options are stored locally on your device.
- AI Chat Content: When you use the AI conversation feature, your text messages are transmitted to our server for processing. These messages are not permanently stored.
- Voice Data: When you use voice input or pronunciation assessment, audio recordings are transmitted for processing. Audio data is deleted immediately after processing.

We do NOT collect: Names, email addresses, phone numbers, location data, device identifiers, or any other personally identifiable information (PII).

3. How We Use Your Information

- To track your learning progress and provide a personalized learning experience
- To save your app preferences and settings
- To process AI chat conversations and provide intelligent Chinese language tutoring
- To process voice input for speech recognition and pronunciation assessment
- To improve app functionality and user experience

All learning data and preferences are stored locally on your device only. We do not maintain user accounts or profiles on our servers.

4. Data Storage and Transmission

Local Storage: Your learning progress, preferences, and mastered content are stored securely on your device using local storage mechanisms. This data never leaves your device.

Network Transmission: The following data is transmitted over the network:
- AI chat text messages — sent to our server for AI processing, not permanently stored
- Voice recordings — sent to our server for speech recognition/transcription, deleted after processing
- Learning content requests — fetching sentences, characters, and other educational content

All network transmissions use HTTPS encryption to protect your data in transit.

We do NOT sell, share, rent, or distribute your data to any third parties.

5. Third-Party Services

- AI Chat (Mistral AI): When you use the AI conversation feature, your text input is sent to our server, which processes it using Mistral AI. No personal information is included in these requests. Mistral AI does not retain conversation data.
- Speech Recognition: When you use voice input or pronunciation assessment, audio is sent to our server for transcription. Audio data is not stored after processing is complete.
- Example Sentences (Tatoeba API): We fetch Chinese example sentences from Tatoeba, an open-source sentence database. No user data is shared with Tatoeba.
- Text-to-Speech (TTS): We use the device's built-in TTS engine to read Chinese text aloud. No data is transmitted to external services for TTS.

5.1 Permissions We Use

- Internet (INTERNET): Required for AI chat conversations, fetching learning content from our server, and speech recognition processing.
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Required for pronunciation practice, AI voice input, and speech assessment. Audio is only recorded when you explicitly tap the record button. We never record audio in the background.
- Vibration (VIBRATE): Used for haptic feedback during button interactions to enhance user experience.

6. Children's Privacy

Easy Chinese is an educational application suitable for users of all ages, including children. We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations.

- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
- Since all learning data is stored locally on the device, parents and guardians have full control over app data through device storage management.
- No user accounts or registration are required to use the app.
- The app does not contain ads, in-app purchases targeting children, or links to external websites.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:
- All local data is protected by your device's operating system security features.
- All network communications use HTTPS encryption.
- Server-side data processing is performed securely and data is not retained after processing.
- We regularly review our security practices to ensure data protection.

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: All your learning data is stored locally and can be viewed within the app.
- Deletion: You can delete all data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.
- Control: You can manage app permissions (network, microphone, etc.) through your device settings at any time.
- Opt-out: You can use the app's offline features without granting network or microphone permissions.

9. Data Deletion

To delete all your data stored by Easy Chinese:
1. Go to your device Settings
2. Navigate to Apps > Easy Chinese > Storage
3. Tap "Clear Data" or "Clear Storage"

Alternatively, simply uninstall the app to remove all associated data from your device. Since we do not store any user data on our servers, uninstalling the app completely removes all traces of your usage.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. Any changes will be posted within the app with an updated "Last Updated" date and are effective immediately upon posting.

- 我们不会故意收集13岁以下儿童的个人信息。
- 由于所有学习数据都存储在设备本地，家长和监护人可以通过设备存储管理完全控制应用数据。
- 使用本应用无需注册用户账户。
- 本应用不包含广告、针对儿童的应用内购买或外部网站链接。

或者，直接卸载应用即可从设备中删除所有相关数据。由于我们不在服务器上存储任何用户数据，卸载应用将完全删除您的所有使用痕迹。

10. 政策变更

我们可能会不时更新本隐私政策，以反映我们实践或适用法律的变化。任何变更将在应用内发布，并更新"最后更新"日期，发布后立即生效。
